With merger with Embarq in 2009 and Qwest in 2011, CenturyLink became the third largest telecommunication company in United States. The new company has 17 million access lines, 5 million broadband customers, and 1.4 million video subscribers across 37 states.
CenturyLink offers voice and data communications, as well as television and home security services. CenturyLink's data communication service is mixer of DSL, Ethernet, MPLS, ATM and Frame relay over Fiber Optic and copper DS3 and T1 lines.
In the past, CenturyLink has partnered with the DISH Network for digital television, but in 2010 they switched to partner with DIRECTV. They have launched their own service called CenturyLink Prism which is an IPTV (Internet-based) system very similar to U-Verse from AT&T. Prism is available in only a few select cities, but they are looking for other metropolitan areas where they can expand the service. For now, most customers will get DIRECTV when they sign up for one of CenturyLink's bundles.
